Welcome to the WSU Masters Program page!

One of the first questions that people ask is what they can do with an MA in economics.  Alumna Veronique Prouhet (2010) provides this (totally unsolicited) response.

Here’s a second, from alumna Shayna Stewart (2011).

For students who wish to apply, here are the MA Program Course Requirements.

We accept applications for the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms, although not all courses are offered in all terms.  There is no firm cut-off date for applying to the M.A. Program, but students are advised to apply at least a month in advance of the start of classes, so that the applications can be processed.

General information

The M.A. degree is intended for those who seek a more extensive background in economics, either for employment as applied economists, or for another advanced degree such as a Ph.D.

Part-Time and International Students

Many students in the M.A. program are employed and take their courses in the evening, so the Department offers all of its core courses and a substantial number of M.A. elective courses in the evening. The program also attracts some international students, including several students from Germany sponsored by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), and the University of Paris II.

Course Requirements

Students admitted to the M.A. program are expected to have, or take as soon as possible, at least one course in calculus, intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, and statistics.

The M.A. curriculum includes courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, a field of concentration chosen by the student, and at least three additional elective courses. Fields of concentration open to masters students currently include econometrics, health economics, industrial organization, international economics, and labor economics. Students also have the option of taking elective courses in the Business School, or in other departments such as Political Science and Mathematics.

AGRADE Program

The Department of Economics participates in the University’s AGRADE program in which whereby qualified seniors in the College of Liberal Arts may enroll simultaneously in some undergraduate and graduate programs of the College. A maximum of fifteen credits may be applied towards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics. Those who elect the AGRADE program may expect to complete the Bachelors and Masters degrees in five years of full-time study.  For more information on this program, click AGRADE.
